   Alvarez is a GREAT ‘workhorse’ guitar.

   I play most of my gigs with an acoustic and for $200 – $300 you can have a nice acoustic/electric alvarez that you are not afraid to ding up a little or spill the occasional beer on.

   And for all of that, it has a good sound too.

   Consider a Parlor size guitar like the Larrivee P-05. These guitars have a smaller body and the neck meets the body at the 12th fret, which results in better projection and tone from the soundhole. This is the style of guitar you see in the famous photo booth picture of Robert Johnson. These guitars are great for slide playing and fingerpicking. Because they appeal to a limited market it may be a little tough to find one at a reasonable price. Keep your eye out on eBay.

   i would say the best overall blues guitars (assuming you want an electric) would be Gibson Les Pauls and Fender Stratocasters. Others that will do the job would the Gibson SG, ES-335, or Fender telecaster. If you want to go acoustic, a large body will do fine or a resonator.

   An old piece of junk that someone thinks is worthless but you think sounds great, then you can get it for cheap.

   Just start looking, it doesn’t have to be a nice guitar for the blues.

   Try a Takamine with a cedar top. Cedar tops are great for fingerstyle blues and they don’t beak the bank.

    Any guitar with a deep rich tone. Blues is all about the soul. It must have passion with the ability to cry.

    Martin or Washburn guitars would work just fine.

    Dawwgie…I have heard the story of building a guitar out of an old cigar box and a broom handle…McKinley Morganfield aka..Muddy Waters so don’t let that be an obstacle..blues is a feeling you see…Absoblueslutely, when you can afford one, get down with a Martin 12 string…go to PRS guitars and you can’t go wrong. Paul, he’s the P in PRS Guitars…until you have the serious coin for a PRS Guitar, I have found some gems at the Salvation Army and/or Goodwill Industries stores…Peace
